ESVP
The ESVP (Explorer, Shopper, Vacationer, Prisoner) is a very simple and quick ice-breaker to measure the engagement and posture of your participants before starting a meeting. It will allow you to anonymously collect their feelings and interest. Depending on the results, you can use this activity to discuss with your participants what needs to be done to improve the meeting.
Voraussetzungen
Prepare a Canvas activity. Import the ESVP Beekast template with the variation of your choice: classic, pirate or star wars or use your own template by importing the image directly into the activity (do not forget to lock the image).
Provide a sticker box: participants will move their sticker directly onto the character that best expresses their state of mind.
Tips: you will find a sticker box in the Beekast template, feel free to adapt the number of stickers to your audience.
Prepare the question you want to ask your participants: "What is your attitude to this meeting today?
Ablauf
Presentation
Make the subject of the meeting clear before starting the activity so that everyone knows where they stand.
Present the principle of the activity to the participants and explain the posture corresponding to each character:
- The Explorer: I want to discover new things and learn as much as possible.
- The Shopper: I am curious to see what information and new ideas I can get.
- The Vacationer: I'm not really interested in this meeting but I'm happy to get out of my daily routine.
- The Prisoner: I feel compelled to participate and would prefer to be elsewhere.
Ask everyone to think about which character best expresses their state of mind.
Tips: allow 5 minutes for everyone to consider all the characters and choose.
Collect
Everyone collects a sticker and places it next to the chosen character. The facilitator can also participate.
Tips: 5 minutes will be enough for this phase.
Summary
Quickly count up the numbers to identify the majority characters. If you end up with a large number of holidaymakers and prisoners, don't hesitate to discuss with your participants in order to better understand their feelings and find solutions to improve the meeting.
Tips: consider adding actions and decisions to record key points for improvement or future action.
The analysis of the results will also allow you to adapt your presentation and your speech to capture the attention of the participants.
Vorschläge und Varianten
ESVP is a very useful activity for continuous improvement and is therefore very suitable for retrospective meetings.
You can also use it for training and collaborative workshops. In this case, it may be interesting to run this activity at the beginning and end of the session to see if your participants are changing their postures.
